Leadership is often portrayed as a solo journey, one in which a single individual stands at the helm and leads others forward. While leadership certainly involves guiding others, in my experience, true leadership is deeply collaborative. It’s about creating spaces for others to grow, share their voice, and step into their own potential. Nowhere is this more evident than in the empowerment of young girls. Girls, especially those facing difficult circumstances, need leaders who understand their unique challenges and are committed to walking alongside them as they build the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
For me, the concepts of leadership, collaboration, and girl empowerment are not abstract ideals—they are intertwined threads in the fabric of my life’s journey.
A Journey of Resilience and Advocacy
Life, however, had other lessons in store for me. As a young adult, I faced one of my greatest challenges: I was hit by a drunk driver, an accident that forced me to reassess everything. At the time, I was a single parent, working two jobs, and balancing the demands of daily life. The accident created obstacles I couldn’t have anticipated, from physical recovery to emotional healing. But it was also a turning point. Through this experience, I learned the true meaning of resilience and the power of perseverance. Leadership isn’t just about guiding others—it’s about leading yourself through life’s darkest moments with hope and determination.
Leadership isn’t about holding power; it’s about sharing it. It’s about creating environments where everyone has a voice and the opportunity to make a difference. This is especially important when working with girls who may have been overlooked or marginalized in other areas of their lives. As a leader, my role is to ensure they have the support, resources, and encouragement they need to thrive.
Leading with Purpose
Empowering the next generation of girls isn’t just about teaching them how to succeed—it’s about showing them how to lead with purpose, empathy, and resilience. Through leadership and collaboration, we can create environments where young girls feel empowered to take control of their futures, break through barriers, and become the leaders they were always meant to be. My story is just one example of what happens when you combine resilience with opportunity, and my hope is that through my work, I can continue to create spaces where young women are inspired to lead, collaborate, and rise above their challenges.
